Your friend is wrong! We wouldn’t be dead 100 years ago, it’s a modern myth, and a very dangerous one.
I think there are so many reasons that we need to go through this painful change, especially as women. For me the change lead me to my centre that I’ve lost so long ago. Loved the poem though!
“I have done nothing all summer but wait for myself to be myself again” by Georgia O'Keeffe. This is exactly where I am now - cocooning myself waiting to be ready for next stage of life.
I often feel that HRT tricks women into idea of very masculine way of being. Menopause is not a disease it’s the need to retreat into oneself, regroup and revaluate one’s priorities… with some help of course, but help that facilitate the change not prevents it
Wonderful - Rose Condo shared this with me as I am also starting to write about this time of life in a sub-substack part of my substack. I am fairly early into the experience and ugh... when I realised the peri part can take UP TO 10 YEARS I went into shock for a fortnight even though I was probably already 2 years into this I had no idea. nice to connect.

I think you have a point! And I’m certainly finding a new self that I am getting to know and love. I hope you got that hint at the end of the piece
I love this quote

Love this so much. Perimenopause is rough. Imagine if men went through it! Thanks for this, Tina!
I think if men went through it, there would be better drugs available!
100%

If we keep talking about it, we can make something beautiful out of this difficult experience x
